Thursday Thirteen - 80's Movie Quotes

Put on you thinkin' caps - it's time for a quiz. That's right - I'm making you work this TT! (Emma, there's one thrown in especially for you!)

Can you name the 80's movie these quotes belong to? All of these are pretty easy and from movies that practically every kid saw that decade (unless you lived in a cave!) That's right - no lines from "Amazon Women on the Moon", "Shag: The Movie", or "Sorority Babes in Slimeball Bowl-A-Rama." I know, a disappointment for some of you, but I had to try and keep a level playing field. So - no fair looking online for the answers. Any cheaters will be forced to listen to Karma Chameleon for 24 hours straight. Consider yourself warned... ;D

I'll post the answers on Friday if they haven't all been guessed by then.

1.) "Donger's here for five hours, and he's got somebody. I live here my whole life, and I'm like a disease."

2.) A. "Well, well. Here we are. You have exactly eight hours and fifty-four minutes to think about why you're here. You may not talk, you will not move from these seats. Any questions?"
B. "Yeah. Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?"

3.) A. "Why you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy looking...Nerf herder!"
B. "Who's scruffy lookin'?"

4.) A. "He said you were a bum."
B. "Aw, he's being generous."
A. "The most gifted bum he ever trained. You know, he loved you like a son. Took a hell of a lot for you to alienate him."
B. "Not much, just you."

5.) "Everything. OK! I'll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max's toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog... When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out... But the worst thing I ever done - I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa - and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life."

6.) A. "A book?"
B. "That's right. When I was your age, television was called books. And this is a special book. It was the book my father used to read to me when I was sick, and I used to read it to your father. And today I'm gonna read it to you."
A. "Has it got any sports in it?"
B. "Are you kidding? Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles..."
A. "Doesn't sound too bad. I'll try to stay awake."
B. "Oh, well, thank you very much, very nice of you. Your vote of confidence is overwhelming."

7.) A. "We blew it, man, we lost it!"
B. "Shut up!"
A. "We unraveled in the face of the enemy!"
B. "It's not our fault, they pulled a mind scramble on us. They opened their eyes and talked."

8.) A. "Wait a minute, he's after you. Who the hell are you?"
B. "Well, I'm a romance novelist."
A. "You're what? What are you doing here?"
B. "I told you, my sister's life depends on me."
A. "Ah, don't give me that s***. I thought you were donating a kidney or something."

9.) A. "Then tell me, "Future Boy", who's President in the United States in 1985?"
B. "Ronald Reagan."
A. "Ronald Reagan? The actor? Then who's VICE-President? Jerry Lewis?"

10.) A. "Wouldn't a fly swatter be easier?"
B. "Man who catch fly with chopstick accomplish anything."
A. "Ever catch one?"
B. "Not yet."

11.) A. "You know, it just occurred to me that we really haven't had a successful test of this equipment."
B. "I blame myself."
C. "So do I."
A. "Well, no sense in worrying about it now."
C. "Why worry? Each one of us is carrying an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back."

12.) "In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics."

13.) This one I threw in at the request of my son!
A. "Before you die there is something you should know about us, Lone Star."
B. "What?"
A. "I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate."
B. "What's that make us?"
A. "Absolutely nothing!"

So there you go, another week reliving the 80's. See you next week!

I think I know on of them. If I'm right, then Michael Douglas was one of the As.

Great list. I think I've guessed about 5 of the 13 some of them I just didn't have a clue on. But looking through the list of others peoples guess I can see why they were movies I never watched.

Yay! Lost Boys! That movie does NOT get enough credit.

Awesome list; I actually knew more than I didn't know. For me, that's ... like catching a fly with chopsticks!

Have fun storming the castle! (hee!)

Wow, great guesses by all! Some of you got really close to getting them all. Thanks to everybody for stopping by and playing.

The crown and trophy has to go to Emma, who (not surprisingly!) got them all correct.

So, Emma, would this flatmate of yours be the same one that's never seen M*A*S*H*? I'm betting he hasn't seen some of these, either ;D

Emma said...

Oh yay....I'd like to say it took longer than a few seconds to get the answers of those but I obviously don't get out enough...but anyway....I'd like to thank Blockbuster video, rubbish English summers, my sister for introducing me to innapropriate films at a tender age....and my brain which, apparently, has the uncanny ability to retain copious amounts of useless information.

That flatmate is a different flatemate, who is my age and therefore has the same appreciation for all things 80's....and can 'truffle-shuffle' with the best of 'em.

Happy T13! Great list cant wait for the answers :) Thanks for stopping by.

Emma,
Lovely acceptance speech - much better than the drivel that's spewed at the Oscars (or would that be BAFTA in your case?) And happy to hear that you have at least one flatmate who has an appropriate knowledge of popular culture!
