We all have songs that we can't help singing along to when they come on the radio. Come on, admit it! You know what I'm talking about. And I don't mean those great, classic songs that everybody loves, I'm talking about the ones that your best friend laughs at you for singing. Of course, if they're really your best friend, they'll sing along with you ;D
So here they are, my list of bad 80's songs that I can't help but sing along to - even though my family wishes I wouldn't! Would any of these make your list? What's your favorite BAD 80's song to sing??
1. Mickey - Toni Basil. This song has to be the epitome of bad 80's karaoke! But anything that my husband will sing along to can't be all bad.
2. Tainted Love - Soft Cell. This is one song that my son and I both can't help singing along to.
3. Putin' on the Ritz - Taco. I had to add this one just for my son. He *loves* this song and we always blare it when it comes on the radio.
4. Come on Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners. This is one of those songs that falls into the strange category of my not really liking it, but must sing it whenever I hear it.
5. Relax - Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Bad, bad, bad 80's music. But I just can't help myself. It's an addiction.
6. Take On Me - Aha. The reality is - I don't really care for this song. But belting out "TAAAKE OOOOONN MEEEEE!" at the top of my lungs is fun. And it annoys my kid, so bonus! ;D
7. Rio - Duran Duran. Or Hungry Like a Wolf. I can't help but think of Margaret Cho's bit about the people from my generation listing to Hungry Like a Wolf in the nursing home. But at least we won't be listening to Britney Spears!
8. If This is It - Huey Lewis and the News. I actually saw them perform at a USO concert. Right before I lost my military ID in an outhouse. Don't ask.
9. Lost in Love - Air Supply. I know, I know - Air Supply. How could I? It's one of those guilty pleasures. And I have to admit that I LMAO when I saw Brad Pitt singing some Air Supply in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." Hey - if it's good enough for Brad, it's good enough for me!
10. Walk Like an Egyptian - The Bangles. Seriously, how can you not sing along to this song?
11. Freeze Frame - J. Geils Band. This is another one that my son loves to sing along to. My husband *hates* riding in the car with us when it comes on!
12. Goody Two-Shoes - Adam Ant. I love this song! It's amazing the amount of housework I can get done while singing and dancing along with this tune! Hey - anything that makes doing the dishes fun shouldn't be mocked.
13. My Sharona - The Knack. My, my, my, my, my WHOOO! Nothing will get my son to roll his eyes faster than my singin' this song!
So there you go, another week stuck in the 80's. When will the madness end?? (Your guess is as good as mine).

LOL. I remember to many of those.
Happy Thursday.
I'm an 80's child so I know all these great songs.Happy TT!
I haven't heard "Tainted Love" in ages.
My 13 this week is misnomers, can you think of any to add? Come by if you can.
Oh, I love them all!Except "Mickey". That song really gets on my nerves. And Duran Duran is my fave 80s band. Have a great TT!
I hereby crown you the 80's queen. We need to find someone to make you some blog bling that says such a thing. I wish I was crafty or savvy enough to figure it out :-) I *love* "Puttin on the Ritz." But, you gotta sing it like the monster in "young Frankenstein!"
These are all great! Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Happy T13!
Hehe, another classic and slightly dodgy selection of 80's hits...I still love Take on Me, and Come on Elieen is still a staple part of the clubbing experience over here....as is the theme tune to Baywatch, go figure.
I sing along to all of those and so many more, to my kids annoyance. You had to love the eighties for the music.
Happy TT, hope you'll visit my 32nd TT...Housework, Quoth the Mama, Nevermore at The Cafe.
Oh my gosh, that was fun! Yep, I know every one of those. My faves on that list are Come on Eileen, Tainted Love and My Sharona. I have always hated Relax, but I will sing it anyway.
Funny thing about My Sharona is that it wasn't until a karaoke session in Japan reading along to the words as I sang them that I realized how dirty half the lyrics are - "I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind" - oh, my. Thankfully none of them had a clue what I was singing in English and didn't ask.
Great list. Happy TT!
LOL! #2 and 12 always get me. I have to crank up the volume so no one can hear me singing.
You lost me with the Air Supply, but I'll gladly admit to all the others!
I couldn't stop singing along with ALL of them... ;-)
Thanks for visiting my 80's tv-series TT!
Do any of you watch "Don't Forget the Lyrics" or "The Singing Bee"? We record them and watch them with the kids. We listen to such a variety of music around here, that my kids are almost as good as I am. My husband tried to stump my 7 year old daughter with a song on his iPod, and she said, "Come on dad, I know that's Cheap Trick!" My kids are that good! My 12 year old knows mostly 80's music, and my daughter knows it all! How many 2 year old go around singing "We Will Rock You" by Queen, or inform you that their favorite song is "Smoke on the Water".
We do not listen to country or rap though!
Not in this house!
I CAN'T STAND MOST OF IT!
I do like Big and Rich "Loud" because they rock it out like crazy!
Is that bad?
Like, totally awesome list. Gnarly. Not grody to the max at all.
OK, that's all the sayings I can think of. I love Freeze Frame and Mickey. Great list.
80's music, always good for a TT. :-D
I'm with you on the Air Supply. I admit to calling it a guilty pleasure of my own. And my husband wrote the lyrics to an Air Supply song in a love note to me when we were dating. Cheesy, I know, but cute.
Hungry Like the Wolf is on our American Idol Karaoke for XBox 360. Those are some of the most inane lyrics I have ever heard. "I smell like I sound"??? Uh...ok. But I did love Duran Duran in their time, I must admit. Simon LeBon, mhhm.
I came here from Katrina's blog and love your choice in eighties music! What fun for a Friday night. I might have to change my playlist to include a few. Or at the very least, put some on my ipod to torture my 10yr old girl. My mom used to sing in the grocery store just to make us cringe. Thanks for the memories.
Kim
Kat,
Thank you! I shall strive to wear my crown with the dignity and respect that goes along with this crown (snort).
Emma,
The theme to Baywatch? Seriously?? Does everybody dance in slow motion? :D
Sassy Mama Bear,
You're TT this week was brilliant! Every mom should read it ;)
Maggie,
I had to go back and listen to the lyrics again. You're right, they are dirty ;) How'd I miss that all these years??
Kimberly,
I've never watched those shows. Sounds like I'll have to catch them! I also like a wide range of styles (top 40, punk, classical, etc.) I'm with you on rap, but hubby is a country fan so we do listen to some of it.
Beth,
Like, Ohmygod! Thanks for the totally awesome compliments.
Lori,
Air Supply - another thing to add to our karaoke list! They have karaoke for xbox 360?? he he - one more way to annoy my family :D
Kim,
Welcome! Yes, anything to torture the kids is a plus in my book. I tell my son it's payback for 16 hours of labor, but he's not buying it. Hey - we mom's have to get our kicks where we can, right?
They do have karaoke for XBox 360 and it is funny how suddenly you notice how risque some of these songs are when your kids are singing them. When my ten year old is singing "you're the right kind of sinner to release my inner fantasies" it hits me a little differently then when I was a teen!
Oh, I'm four days late! Anyway, thanks for commenting on my first Thursday Thirteen. :)
I love Karaoke! But I always get drowned out by my very loud Aunties.
We all thought Come On Eileen was such a cool song when we were little kids - and had no clue what he was singing about.
Great List!
Except for Lost in Love, I love to dance to these songs in addition to singing to them. My kids wish I wouldn't dance to them either, and they really groan when I sing along.
I love Adam Ant! I remember when he guest starred on Northern Exposure and did a really amazing spoof of himself as that character.
I still get all tingly and excited when I hear Come On Eileen. :)
F-M, do not ever stop doing your TTs!!
