That's right, I said FISH ORGY!
When we drained the pond last fall, all of the fish had to be caught. Seemed like an easy thing at the time, until we realized just how many fish there were! It took Mike 2 days to nab them all. We split them between 2 big, blue Rubbermaid totes - each with its own aerator. Well, between the shock and several raccoon raids which left our deck looking like Jonestown: The Morning After, only 9 survived.
When we put them back in the newly re-lined pond last month, they swam around in small circles for awhile. They finally ventured out, then hid behind the flagstones in the pond. We thought they were a bit traumatized by their new, big digs but APPARENTLY they were getting busy at, well, gettin' busy.
I went out to the pond and noticed these tiny little things in the water. I was trying to figure out if they were some kind of larvae (not uncommon in a pond) when I noticed some slightly larger things in the water. Looked an awful lot like little fish. And as if to verify my suspicion, an even bigger one swam by me.
That's right: not one, not two, but THREE batches of baby fish have been born since we put the fish back in the pond! The range anywhere in size from a 1/2 inch to 1.5 inches long. I'm sure you're thinking "Awwww! How cute!"
Did I mention that there's well over 100 new little fishies in the pond?? NOW we're on the same page.
Anybody want any fish?? They're free :D

LOL
Sounds like they appreciate the new pad!
*snort*
What kind of fish are they?
I am truly laughing. And out loud. They are some happy fish. I think they like their new home. And think that they can fit everyone in. Maybe? It does look like a HUGE pond. Perhaps it is an exercise in evolution. They need mass amounts of children to survive the next racoon raid? Okay...I'm really just giggling...
Kimberly,
Oh sure, laugh at my horny little fishy problem! See how you are ;D
They're all different types of large and/or fancy goldfish. Each is at least 6 inches long, some are orange, some white, and some a combination.
Want some??? :D
Kat,
You're right, it is a large pond, but these fish all grow to be 6 - 8 inches long. 100+ fish at that size is way, way, WAY too much for the pond.
I'm *sure* your girls would *love* to come and take some of these little fishies home. Of course, they'd probably want to go skinny dipping in my pond (my turn to snicker and snort ;) but that's OK as long as they leave with a few extra friends!
You had me at "Fish Orgy"...
still laughing.
All I can say is...be careful around that pond. Maybe it is something in the water!!!! Hee!
I would love some if only we lived near each other. We've been down to one pathetic (but huge) goldfish in our pond for a couple of years now. I don't even wanna picture a fish orgy in my mind...!
Oh, I hope it's nothing in the water ;D
BTW, y'all now know what you're getting for Christmas - fishies!
