Mutnomah Falls and Gifts from my Mother

Our good friends, Dan and Joan, braved the snow and came up from California to stay with us for a few days. We'd had grand plans of all the places we wanted to take them, but with many roads still being impassable, our plans have been drastically altered. Fortunately it's warmed up a bit in the last 24 hours, so that coupled with their 4 wheel drive vehicle allowed us to make the trip to the nearby waterfalls.

So here, for your viewing pleasure:

Horsetail Falls

Multnomah Falls

With a drop of 620 feet, Mutnomah falls is the second highest year-round waterfall in the US.

Dan, Cody and Mike (smiling!)

Right before I snapped this shot, Cody leaned over to hubby and said: "You know she's going to put this on the blog...)

And remember I said that there were more gifts to come from my mother? This was Cody's gift. Pretty cool, eh? It weighs a bloody ton, but he's completely in love with it.

Know what I got? A Rubik's Cube. Hey Stace - want to trade for that toilet seat you got from your hubby? That I could use...

OMG, check out Cody!
How freaking cool is that?????

My boys would go nuts! Especially my second son, Nathan, who lives for RuneScape.
Where did she get it?
Is it made by a local artist or is it mass production?
I want one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOVE the chain mail hand protection!! If he starts having headaches, though, I think that helmet just might be the culprit!! I'm going to try to post some pics of H-T and his new customizable Doku saber. That thing looks and sounds so much like the real thing that it is CREEPY! Oh, and have you seen the new retro Star Wars sheet sets at Pottery Barn? They make them all the way up to Queen Size for us grown up geeklings!!

That armour is crazy cool, would have loved something like that when I was a kid.

The weather has changed here too, from overcast and gloomy to pure sunshine, but about 36F....I'm not made for those kind of temps...I need heat...hot water bottles, thermal underwear, fluffy socks, hot chocolate...other such heat producing items ;-)

He got chain mail and armor?! How cool!! Tell him not to outgrow it.

And a rubik's cube? Why??

And your waterfall journeys are gorgeous. The snow is really pretty. Are you forecasted to have more? I won't torture you with the temperatures here. Except to say that pictures of my kids on Christmas in shorts are kinda bugging me.

Kimberly,
I have no idea where my mom found this, and she won't tell me (just one of her many quirks). If I can, at some point, force the info out of her, you'll be the first to know!

Kerry,
OMG! Thank you, geeky friend, for sharing that info with me. I want those sheets! And the duvet! And the blanket! Hubby is not so thrilled... ;)

Emma,
Yeah, I'm not much of a cold weather gal, either, but I'll take the cold over extreme heat and humidity any day of the week. I did not do very well when we lived in Texas ;)

Kat,
"Why" would my mother get me a Rubik's cube? Because I liked them. In the third grade. And it's her way of insuring a future argument when she comes to my house and demands to see where, exactly, all of her gifts to me are. And I'll tell her they're at Goodwill ;D

I remember warm weather at Christmastime. Our first holiday in Phoenix didn't even seem like a holiday to me. Of course, I never had to worry about being snowed in, either ;D

Are you mom's gifts to Cody hit and miss too or is it just her gifts to you that are uninspired?

I actually wouldn't mind a Rubik' Cube. It's not something I'd buy on my own (unlike a toilet seat). LOL!

And the waterfall...omg! That's spectacular!! Might use it to lure dh to take us out your way. ;)

Wow!! look at that armor!!! My husband is drooling...not that he'll ever get anything like that from me ever...not after the toilet seat. You know what else he got me...besides the toaster oven of course...a JR slinky...not even a real slinky...its too short to go down the stairs and entertain the children..pft...at least it was a human sized cube..not one of those little key ring ones that you can't use correctly :-P
Those falls are INCREDIBLE...absolutely beautiful. Id be there all the time with my camera ;P until I froze my fingers off that is :-P

The armor is way cool. I have a picture to post with my two youngest dressed as Clone Troopers but it doesn't beat the armor picture. I'm not even showing my kids, don't want to promote jealousy and all that.

Hope you had a wonderful New Year, my bloggy buddy!

Do you know who the new Doctor is...coz I do ;-)

Teresa,
Some of his gifts are misses, but the majority are purely given as a way to "buy" him. He's well aware of this and accept them as such.

I would *love* to lure you out this way! What else would it take, and I'll make sure to post photos of those things, too!

Stace,
He didn't even get you the full sized Slinkie?? Hmmm, we may need to have a little talk with him ;P

Lori,
You know, as a kid I *so* wanted a Storm Trooper costume. I found one a few years back on Ebay that I would have bought if I'd had the money. Happy New Year to you, too!

Emma,
Funny thing - I saw an article online earlier today about the announcement and told hubby that I was going to have to e-mail you to find out who it was. I then realized that it was already past the announcement time over there and found the info online.

I'm still not happy about David Tennant leaving.
