Happy Belated Valentine's Day

On Friday we all had our annual homeschool Valentine's party. Since it was Friday the 13th, *I* wanted to have a "My Bloody Valentine" party, but I was outvoted. Spoilsports ;D Little did we know that there would, indeed, be some bloodshed, but fortunately no stitches were involved!

Cody spent the days leading up to the party designing and making his box. Last year he made it out of Legos. This year, he decided on a more "manly" box. And let's face it - nothing says "manly" like camouflage!

After everyone arrived and the kids passed out their valentine's it was off to the craft stations! There were vases decorated with tissue paper squares (the older boys had a race to who could finish first. Cody won - messily ;), painted suncatchers, candy necklaces, paper heart baskets, and Hershey's Kiss rosebud's.

One of the activities had the kids guessing how many candies were in this jar. Leave it to my kid to win! What can I say - he knows his candy ;)

The big hit of the party? The chocolate fountain. (Quit drooling on your keyboard!) We had plenty of goodies for dipping, including bananas, strawberries, marshmallows, graham crackers, and even potato chips!

After plenty of playtime outside (Oregon weather is surprisingly cooperative in February), the teen boys all headed back in for some Wii fun. Hard to imagine them sitting so still and paying such attention after all of the junk food they consumed!

And I know you're all dying to know what hubby and I did. He took me to the movies - to see Taken. Because nothing says "I Love You" like a kick-ass revenge movie ;)

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

Cool party!

Chocolate potato chips? Were they any good? What am I saying, everything is good with chocolate! LOL

I used discontinued wallpaper books for the heart baskets. It's stronger than regular paper, so it doesn't tear easy when you weave them. Plus the patterns are fun! Stop by any wallpaper place and ask them for their old books to use for school! They save them for kids!

Did I miss something? What caused the bloodshed?? Come on...don't leave me hanging here...

If I had been there, it would have been caused by someone trying to get in front of me at the chocolate fountain...

mmmmm, Chocolate fountain *wipes down keyboard for excess spittle*

Don't really do the Valentines thing personally....bit of a Valentines grinch...though I did spend the weekend with friends vegging out and eating rubbish, which kinda works conceptionally I guess.

This looks like an awesome party, and I'm glad you got teen boys involved! Can you tell me more about your homeschool group? How many kids/families tend to be involved on a regular basis?

I started a small group around here a year ago, and we're nowhere near the participation level you have!

Kimberly,
I'll be honest - I didn't try them with chocolate. But those that did said it was fabulous! Thanks for the tip about the wallpaper. I'll have to see if I can pick some up for next time!

Kerry,
Oh, there was an errant rock thrown. You know how teen boys can be ;)

Emma,
From the sounds of it, you had a pretty good weekend. Sounds a bit like mine, actually (with hubby, the kid and one of his friends instead of old flatmates ;)

Jennifer,
Since we opened our group up to the public (you had to know someone in it to join prior to that), we now have about 70 families. Of those, we have 15 - 20 families that are active on a regular or semi-regular basis. We're becoming known as "the group with the teen boys" because many of the groups in the area have kids between 5 - 9. Of those families, there's a small handful of us that do the lion's share of organizing and planning activities and field trips. If you'd like to pick my brain (what's left of it, anyway ;) feel free to e-mail me at cxfiles at aol dot com.

The party looks fun! I am in the midst of planning a huge sweet sixteen for my daughter for this Friday. She invited about 75 people, not sure how many will be able to make it. I'm going slightly insane with getting ready for it though!

We should have gone to see Taken on Valentines. Instead we went to see He's Just Not That Into You. A couple of the storylines were cute but it was pretty damning towards marraige as a whole. The married guy was a scumbag. Kinda not what you're looking for in a date with your husband, lol! But then we went and had Indian food and happy tastebuds were had by all.

Geez, just how did you know I'd be drooling on my keyboard? Did dh install that webcam and didn't tell me about it? ;)

What a super fun Valentine's Party! I did the Darwin/Lincoln heart cookie-cake for our LEGO grp, as I mentioned in my blog. That's about as mushy as I get for the occasion.

Congrats to Cody on winning the speed decorating and the candy-guessing contests! ;)
