The kids listened to the history of the day and the current traditions surrounding it. Then it was into the kitchen for some traditional Louisiana fare, like red beans and rice, jambalaya, fried okra, beignets, and king cake. Yummy! Afterwards, the kids headed outside to enjoy the sunshine and dry weather (yay!), before coming in for some crafts.
Cody and his finished product.
Some of the boys and their bling!

Look! Sasquatch showing his entire face! (Between you and me, I think that all of the food sedated him ;)

Tuesday a bunch of us headed to IHOP for their free Mardi Gras pancakes. We garnered the attention of EVERYONE in the joint, as our group of 15 were the only ones dressed for the occasion.
Guard the pancakes! The locusts have arrived!
After gorging ourselves, we headed for an afternoon of fun at the nearby nickel arcade. After all of the kids headed in, the lady at the counter asked us what school was off for the day. My friend Kala replied: "We homeschool! The public doesn't think we socialize, but here we are!" To which the lady replied: "That is soooo cool!"
Yes, it is ;D

Ok, so I've decided I'm not being petty anymore. No more feeling jealous over the incredible homeschool group that you are part of. I'm just going to be happy for you guys and enjoy reading about your Mardi Gras adventures. Well, and short-sheet your bed occasionally when you are out having fun.
We don't socialize here in FL either, but we have a group of 26 kids and their families, going to SEA WORLD today! Look out Shamu, here we come! LOL
If they follow their animal studies and ask good questions, we might just reward them with a ride or two! :D
"Locusts"...snort, snort!!
9 families in her house?! I'd be having a complete heart-attack. Crowds scare me; crowds in my house scare me a whole bunch.
Mmmm...beignets...I need to try and make some.....
Carri, I saw your blog on Homefires and wondered if you could do my homeschooling interview. I'd love to have you participate. You can write me at
daharbeson @ yahoo.com (without the spaces)
Thanks!
And if anyone else here wants to participate, great, the more the merrier!
How fun! I'm not sure I could fit 9 more families in my house, but they all look very well behaved. ;)
Your playlist is cracking me up!
I ALWAYS forget about the free pancakes at IHOP. Always. Such a ditz. And I get so IRATE about the lack of socialization thing. I want to know what they think we do all day.
I nominated you for an Honest Scrap award today. Check it out at:

Really dumb blogging question, but I just can't figure it out: how do you get pics to show up partway through your posts? Every time I try that, they go up to the top of the post.
