OK, on to happier things!
We all went roller skating a few weeks back. Yes, roller skating! As in, get that Farrah flip going, grab your guys hand, it's time for couple's skate! Cody was first out on the floor, and (poor thing) spent the whole time looking like on octopus on skates. Granted, it was his first time, unless you count those plastic ones that he got for his 3rd birthday. Though, come to think of it, he really wasn't any better on those...
This may have been the only smile I saw on his face the whole time we were there, but the first words out of his mouth when we got in the car was: "That was fun! When can we go again?"
Back in the day I spent every Friday night at our local skating rink, Skater's Derby. I figured I'd hop back onto the floor and it would all come back to me.
I was wrong.
Never before have I been so thankful to have a wall to hold onto (or a well padded backside ;) It took me a good 30 minutes before I was sure I wasn't going to fall at any moment. Hubby and I finally got comfortable enough that we could even hold hands while we were skating. There was much giggling from us (and I'm sure an equal amount of gagging from those watching us ;P ). If you want to feel 13 again - in a good way - I highly recommend you grab your skates!
And what post would be complete without pix of hubby dodging the camera?
I give you: Sasquatch on Wheels!

Sorry to hear about your mom. My mom is my best friend and I am losing her to a failing heart. Life isn't always fair!
My kids have been on skates since they were toddlers, back when there was more wheel than boot on the skate! LOL They always look forward to a trip to the rink. I grew up speed skating in the 80s and I rollerblade now. So woo-hoo to you for getting Cody on wheels for thee first time! Take him often and watch his coordination grow!
I'm sorry things have gotten that bad with your Mom...I have a friend who sucks the life out of me and there are times when I just refuse to pick up the phone when she calls..I can't imagine how difficult that would be if she were family..especially a parent. ((HUGS))
Roller skating...*sigh*...I used to skate all the time when I lived in Florida in the earlly 80's. It was the thaaaaaannng to do :-P I even had my own skates with homemade pom poms on them. I was stylin' man! Then we moved back up to NH where the only rink was open from 12-3 on saturdays then it was closed down and turned back into a dance hall. *sigh* no fair. Looks like you guys had fun...I would have worried about falling on my knees..I can't seem to walk lately without doing it, I can't imagine what mangled mess I'd have attached to my legs if I tried skating again...oy vay! :-P You are a brave woman! :-D
Family stuff can be tough. :-( Sometimes you love 'em but actually living life with them is difficult! {{}}
I didn't know real roller rinks even existed anymore! Here I thought they were all taken over by roller blades. I used to love roller skating but am afraid it wouldn't come back to me either. I think I'll just remember my glory days and let it be. ;-)
Boo to your mom...good for your for taking a year's break from her. Some people you just don't need in your life; too bad it happens to be your mom. Your friends love you though! :)
Our homeschool grp has a roller skating night, but no one in my family wants to go. :} That's funny what Cody said; he's a good sport!
