A "Tempest"uous Life ;)

Way, way back in December (which seems soooo long ago!), bubba had his second ever audition - for a local tween/teen production of "The Tempest". He was *thrilled* to learn that he was cast as the bad guy, Sebastian (and equally thrilled that his buddy Ira was cast as the other bad guy ;)

Over the course of the past several months (and 60+ hours of rehearsals), they were finally ready - or as ready as they could be. You see, some form of plague struck a large portion of the cast. In the weeks preceding opening, a good 1/3 of the kids were hacking and sneezing, and one kid *completely* lost his voice. But as they say - the show must go on! And it did. There was a nearly packed house every night.

Besides helping to tie-die t-shirts for the cast, I was there 2 hours prior to each performance helping with hair and makeup, and hanging out backstage during the performance - trying to keep the mob of hormonally charged kids quiet. Which is akin to herding cats.

Bubba and Ira with the moustaches on. Is it just me - or does my son look like some smarmy Italian guy??

For the final Friday performance, we had a bunch of friends come and watch. One of the mom's (ever the homeschooler ;) did the math and found that just over 1/4 of the audience that night was there to support bubba! Not bad ;) After the show, 2 of the families came over to our house for dessert and general merriment.

Apple crisp, Cookies and Cream and Caramel Delight ice cream, chocolate cake, brownies, cheesecake and lemon meringue pie. Yum!

After the final bows of the final performance Saturday night, the kids sang a little ditty for the audience. (I tried to post a clip of it, but after an hour long fight with Blogger, I couldn't get the dang thing loaded.) And then we went and overran a local restaurant ;D

WOW!!! That is such a huge undertaking! For both of you!!! Now you can take a deep breath and resume life. I still want to hear this little "ditty" the cast sang!!!

Try uploading it to YouTube and then embed it here.

What a great production! Kudos to Cody for the hard work and dedication! Were many of the cast homeschoolers like himself? BTW, the dessert table pic has me drooling onto my keyboard...mmm...

Love this part:
"trying to keep the mob of hormonally charged kids quiet. Which is akin to herding cats."

I worked backstage for exactly *one* performance of my son's many theatrical experiences, and I can safely say I will NEVER volunteer to do that again! Give me another job - any job -- but that!

Well done to Cody & co...last thing I did slightly play based was 'Mary' circa 1984-86 for the infant school nativity and I fear that's when my acting ability peaked ;-)

fyi that spread looks amazing...but what did everyone else eat ;-)

Congrats to Cody, glad it all went so well!

Now, what are you going to do with all of your "free time"?

I love the Cape, but you always make me want to move to Oregon. You do the coolest things. I'm having blogger envy, lol.

Lori,
Getting you all to move to Oregon is all part of my plan for world domination. MUAHAHAHA!

Ruth,
I have *no* idea what we're going to do with all our time. Knowing us - probably fill it up with things to blog about ;D

Emma and Topsy,
See the goodies you miss by living so far away??

Jennifer,
Yeah, it wasn't my favorite part, either, but we didn't have a lot of options as so few parents volunteered for that. And Lord knows we couldn't have left them back there to their own devices ;D

Kimberly,
I got it posted on Facebook so you can see it there!
