Zombie Movie Madness

Every fall we do horror movies. Lots and lots of horror movies. Not like Saw or Hostel, more along the lines of Psycho and Nosferatu (which is one of Cody's all time favorite movies). This year appears to be the year of the zombies, and e-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y seems to be talking about them these days. As if I didn't need further reminding, I even came across this bumper sticker:

Now, Cody has brought up a good question -  if zombies are dead, wouldn't they rot rather quickly? (This lead to a lengthy discussion as to the rate of zombie decomposition with regards to ambient temperatures, humidity levels, insects infestations, etc. Proving once again that ANY topic can be educational!)

So now we're trying to find some more good zombie movies to watch. Quite frankly, I don't think anything will ever top Shaun of the Dead, which is hands down the best zombie movie ever made.
Shaun of the Dead Pictures, Images and Photos

Zombieland was pretty good, too, but we needed to find more. This of course led to a Google search where I turned up such gems as these:

Bachelor Party in the Bungalow of the Damned - The strippers will give you a lap dance and then eat your intestines. Good times!

Bloodsucking Nazi Zombies - As if the Nazi's weren't bad enough the first time around.

Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town - I admit it. I've actually seen this one.

Colton Bastian Vs. The Zombie Apocalypse - The entire fate of mankind rests on the shoulders of somebody named Colton? We are so screwed.

Fast Zombies with Guns - I guess your only hope is that their fingers will rot off quickly and they won't be able to pull the trigger.

Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane - And you thought snakes on a plane were bad.

FVZA: Federal Vampire and Zombie Agency - Our tax dollars at work.

I Was a Zombie for the F.B.I. - He worked undercover for the FVZA

Gore-Met, Zombie Chef from Hell - If Gordon Ramsey were a zombie...

Hamilton Carver – Zombie P.I - Magnum's cousin.

The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies - It was either that, or become Scientologists.

L.A. Zombie - Slightly better than Fresno Zombie

Mutant Vampire Zombies from the 'Hood! - Luckily, their pants will hang down so far they'll fall over every time they try and chase you.

Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Terror - Just making sure they've covered all the bases...

Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead - Maybe we shouldn't have buried our dead chickens in the backyard...

Rising Up: The Story of the Zombie Rights Movement - Everybody has to be politcally correct these days.

Zombie Vegetarians - Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the garden!

So help me out here. What are your favorite horror/zombie movies?

Have you read Zombe Haiku? Funny, gross book which starts off as a human poet writing in haiku about lovely things and then gets britten by a zombie and starts to change into one all the while still writing in haiku. Funny watching his writing style and thoughts change. Check it out. The author also wrote Werewolf Haiku and Vampire Haiku but we haven't read those yet. Did you know that they are making Pride and Prejedice and Zombies into a movie with Keira Knightley? Should be out soon.

I don't like scary movies but I have to second your vote for Shaun of the Dead. I LOOOOOVE that movie and just introduced my 16 and 14 year old boys to it a couple of months ago. Not a zombie movie (or even scary) but if you liked Shaun of the Dead, you ought to see Hot Fuzz as well :)

Shaun of the Dead is an absolute classic...made up of classics ;-)

As a Brit I have to say 28 Day Later is the best non-zombie zombie film..though is the grand tradition of sequels 28 weeks later was a bit meh.

The Crazies is a newish one which was half decent, though again not strictly zombies.

And Rec is pretty good to, a little different in terms of the technique...a bit Blair Witch/Cloverfield in style, and also better in it's Spanish original form than the Hollywood remake known as Quarantine.

Of course if you really want a scary horror of a zombie flick there's always the Twilight saga...the acting truly is of the wooden, undead, 'grr arg' variety ;-)

We enjoyed Zombieland, but I agree with Emma, 28 Days later is probably my favorite.

Also need to mention that the old 1968 "Night of the Living Dead" was filmed in my hubby's old home town of Evan's City, PA. His family is buried in the cemetery they use for the film. So I guess you could say we are REALLY into Zombie movies too!

Currently reading "Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies", and it's about 5 highly trained zombie killing sisters! LOL

Jennifer: I haven't read that! It's definitely going on our "to be read" list, though. And I had no idea they were making P&P&Z into a movie! Hmm, we may have to watch the original and then that one back to back.

Snoopy: Oh, we LOVE that movie! And Shaun of the Dead is more funny than scary, so please try it. I think you'll like it. :)

Emma: Twilight *shudder* Now I'm going to have nightmares tonight. LOL They actually filmed a bunch of that movie around here (including at Multnomah Falls, which is one of our favorite spots).

We haven't seen the other ones, though, and I've heard a lot of really good things about 28 days later. We'll have to add that to our list.

Kim: That's actually on our list to be watched this month (and I'll have to included a commentary about your hubby's dead realitives. LOL)

Hi there! Not a movie but may I suggest an awesome game??? Zombie Flux - totally awesome any time of year. Along those lines, Monty Python Flux totally rocks as well, if you're into that sort of thing. Shrubbery and all.

I agree, Shaun of the Dead was great. Top of my list will have to be the original Nigh of the Living Dead. Gave me nightmares forever after watching it the first time. There is a new TV show coming on Halloween night on AMC that looks very interesting - I think it is called The Walking Dead.

Moon Mama: Hey! I've been missing you on FB. It'll be good to see you guys on Tuesday, though. :) We haven't heard of either of those, but we'll be checking them out! And who doesn't love Monty Python (besides Mike, but we love him anyway ;)

Diane: My son just watched that one! And I had heard something about that TV show, but I couldn't remember the name of the channel. Off to set my dvr... :)

I am such a freaking chicken, I cannot watch a zombie movie without needing hubby to accompany me to the bathroom for the next week.

Consequently, I have no faves to recommend... but have you ever seen Attack of the Killer Tomatoes?

Pretty funny stuff.

That is the BEST bumper sticker. Maybe ever. True story.

When we first getting to know our very good friends, they showed us Shaun of the Dead as a "test". Yeah, they put us through a friendship test. If we couldn't laugh at that movie, we wouldn't make it as buds. Social acquaintances maybe, but not soul mates.

We passed.

So great! I am so excited to have found your blog on the Secular homeschoolers board! I want to watch some horror movies that are not too creepy and scary for my 8 & 10 year olds and this is a great list! I look forward to following you!

My personal choice is "Zombie Love", and odd little college production.
